True People Search, a service that allows users to look up people they may know, has the potential to divulge a great deal of personal information.
Some argue that the website goes too far. For instance, if someone with malicious purpose knows your name, they can find out where you live, where your family live, and even all of your phone numbers — all for free.
Sarah Hamel was just introduced to True People Search.
“I saw someone post about it on Facebook, so I (searched) for myself,” said Green Cove Springs resident Hamel. “… It was some of my information, but the address was incorrect. “I recently relocated.”
Hamel’s new address is not shown on the website.
Cassandra Guerrero, a Green Cove Springs mother of two, had only recently discovered the website. It’s troubling to her since it reveals far too much information, she claims.
Guerrero explained, “We’re obliged to safeguard the kids.” “They can get the children’s names.” It appears to be quite terrifying…. This isn’t for me. It’s more for my daughters, my family, and my girls.”
Even messaging information is revealed on the site.
Guerrero stated, “They can see you have kids.” “This isn’t good.”
However, you have the option of removing your personal information. Simply go to the bottom of the screen and click the Privacy option. On the following screen, click the “Record Removal Request” link. Then, after submitting your name, follow the instructions.
Within minutes, your name and information will be deleted from the site.
